So beautiful & chic. The handira also known as Moroccan weddingblanket.

The handira can be found in the luxury hotels of Morocco and is very popular in the Western countries. The handira or also known as ” Moroccan weddingblanket ‘ is normally cream of color and adorned with sequins.

The first time I saw a Moroccan weddingblanket I totally was in love with it. They are so beautiful en so chic. I love the story behind the handira. It’s so romantic.

According to the old Moroccan Berber tradition from the Middle Atlas mountains, the handira was worn by the bride on the day of her wedding, on her way to the house of her husband. The handira was made all by hand, with love and lots of prayers, by female relatives of the bride. The handira was hand spun and thousands of sequins were attached by hand.  The handira stood for happiness, fertility and protection against evil.

The vintage handira’s are very popular but more and more difficult to obtain. We are proud to have a number of vintage handira’s in our collection.
